Observing World Prematurity Day on Wednesday with the international theme for the year 2021 “Zero Separation Act now! Keep parents and babies born too soon together”, at Medicover hospital along with 50 preterm babies and their parents, the doctor said that usually any baby born at 22-28 weeks of pregnancy is considered critical as “the limits of viability” and chances of survival are minimal even at best of western standards. The doctor says survival of such premises may be possible only with round-the-clock care supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.

In view of the rising statistics, it is observed that about 15 Million Preterm babies were born worldwide every year. , the hospital has initiated a program in bringing awareness by gathering about 50 preterm babies who have been born in their hospital along with that of from general public, to raise awareness regarding preterm births, concerns of preterm babies and their families, their possible health issues, along with the doctor’s role in providing them necessary care for the first few years after birth.

Doctor Sai Sunil Kishore who served about 7500 premature and low birth weight babies till now, has expressed his concern towards this alarming statistics of preterm, low birth weight, and premature babies seen in the recent past along with the cases of death, disability and pain, and sufferings of the parents. Gynaecologists Vidya Rama, Geetha Vandana, Radhika, Sowdhamini, Neonatologists Vijay Krishna, Rahul along doctor Sudarshan attended the gathering.
